Active Fashion

Tank (similar) // Capris (similar) // Sports Bra (similar) // Sneakers

The outfit above is one of my favorites and is constantly on repeat. The pants are Adidas, the shoes are ASICS, and the top and bra are both Fabletics. It took me FOREVER to find a good bra from Fabletics, and now they don’t seem to be making that one anymore. Oh well, I still have all of these. These items are old (a year+ in some cases!), but I’ve linked some similar items if you’re interested.

Last week was my first week on summer break. Are you tired of me talking about having the summer off yet?! I let myself sleep in most days and be a little lazy, which felt amazing. This weekend, I’m switching back to my early (4:45 a.m.) wake-up calls so I can fit in my workout before my husband leaves for work.

Sunday, 6/4/17:

I had to work last Saturday morning and then my husband and I spent the afternoon cleaning out my classroom. That left me wanting a good stretch on Sunday! I did one of the PiYo Strength workouts (Full Body Blast). I have sung my praises for PiYo here and here before, but these workouts use sliders to kick the stretch up a notch. For such tiny pieces of equipment, the sliders kick my butt.


Monday, 6/5/17:

I kicked the week off with a quick upper body and abs circuit using the Jillian Michaels app and then went out for a run. Pippa and I go in about 3.25 miles and she loved it. Speaking of running with Pippa, did you see that we were featured on Running With Ollie a couple of weeks ago?!

Tuesday, 6/6/17:

Tuesday I was completely draggy. I was already starting to fall into the pattern of laying around and not knowing what day it was. This was one of those days when the best part of the workout was when it was finally over. I did Sunset Sweat, a total body workout from Beach Babe 5, and the new Tone It Up Ball Workout. Honestly… I hate stability ball workouts. Due to my lack of core strength, balance, and just my general awkwardness, they’re difficult for me. I felt like it was a waste, so I tacked on the BodyLove booty workout too.

Wednesday, 6/7/17:

Wednesday totally redeemed itself, being Global Running Day, and all. 🙂 I got in Absolutely Bootyful, a no-equipment booty and abs workout from Beach Babe 5, and 3 miles with Pippa. By the time we finished it was so hot, but as always, so worth it.

Thursday, 6/8/17:

Rest day. Total rest, not active rest. This is rare for me!

Friday, 6/9/17:

On Friday, I got in an upper body workout (the #TIUFlexFriday workout), and followed it up with a 3.25 mile run. It was one of those runs that even though it was the same route and same distance that I’d done 100 times, it just felt hard. I couldn’t wait for it to be over.

Saturday, 6/10/17:

I wrapped up my week of workouts with “The Bobby Call”, which is a hilarious HIIT featuring Karena’s husband, Bobby. I’m always trying to convince my husband to work out with me. He always says no, but if he ever said yes, I imagine it would go something like this. Kudos to Bobby for putting himself in the hot seat!

The rest of Saturday was spent like this. Lazing around and moving as little as possible.

Tomorrow begins the final week of the 2017 Tone It Up Bikini Series. I know I gush about TIU all the time (#TIUgirlproblems), but this is the first challenge that I’ve stuck with start to finish! I’m a little bit sad to see it go, but excited for what’s to come. I’ve already started researching what I want to do next. I begin half marathon training the first week of July, so I want to get something nailed down soon!

Last Week’s Workouts & the Last Week of School!

I am finally (finally, finally!) on summer break. Hallelujah! I am looking forward to reading some good books (I already finished Dark Places by Gillian Flynn), sleeping a little bit later, and generally just having things be a bit more relaxed.

I knew this week was going to be a little bit on the crazy side, so I told myself it would be OK if I didn’t get all my workouts in or if my nutrition was a little off (spoiler alert: it was)… But I still tried to be good to myself and treat my body well. Sunday, 5/28/17:

I knew I wasn’t going to have a lot of time for running this week, so I wanted to get one in early. I set out for a 5k and I had braided my hair before I left. After about a mile and a half, I realized my braid was unraveling behind me because my hair tie had slipped out, unbeknownst to me. Like, really?! Yes.😂 So I turned around and run home and finished the rest of my run on the treadmill! I also added in a 10 minute ab workout!

Monday, 5/29/17:

It’s so easy to be lazy on a Monday off! I let myself have a very slow morning, but later completed my Memorial Day Tabata workout. It was a sweaty one that left my hamstrings sore for a few days after. Seriously–give it a try if you haven’t! You’ll love the workout!


Tuesday, 5/30/17:

Tuesday, I busted out my mini resistance bands for some booty work. Tone It Up released a new booty video and then I followed it with the 5 Daily Moves. The daily moves were three rounds of 15 reps of banded kickbacks, banded side steps, banded squat abductions, side step-ups, and step-ups. For such tiny little things, those mini resistance bands pack a powerful punch!

Wednesday, 5/31/17:

I felt like my upper body needed a little bit of attention, so I completed the #TIUBodyLove Arms & Abs, plus K&K HIIT!

Thursday, 6/1/17:

I had planned an afternoon workout, but I was exhausted soooo… Rest day. 🙂

Friday, 6/2/17:

After a good night of rest I woke up and got in Tight & Toned Core. I don’t typically like core only workouts, but I find this one to be so challenging! I know I need to strengthen my core, so I haven’t minded adding it in lately. The Beach Babe 5 program is worthwhile for that workout only. I also got in a quick with HIIT workout with HIIT the Beach. I then headed to work for my last day of the school year! PTL!


Saturday, 6/3/17:

Another rest day. I didn’t complete any formal workouts, but I did spend the day cleaning out my classroom and moving things. I definitely broke a sweat, so it totally counts, right?!

Today, I’m planning my workouts for the coming week and trying to decide how to spend my first week off! How are you getting fit this week?

Last Week's Workouts & Happy Memorial Day!

Now, if I’m being honest, I’m thankful for servicemen/women, but I’m equally as thankful to have the day off today to sleep in and rest. School last week was chock full of activities from field trips, to field day, to talent shows–there was no down time! Friday, my younger brother graduated from high school (😢he’s not a baby anymore!), as did my husband’s cousin, so we made the trip home to watch them walk across the stage! We drove back late that night and finally crawled into bed around 12:30. The rest of the weekend was spent resting and recuperating from the hustle and bustle.

Sunday, 5/21/17:

I’ve said this before, but it bears repeating. I love doing yoga on Sundays! Yoga and Sunday is the perfect pair. I also like matching up my yoga with some total body strength so I can get a good sweat going before bringing my heart rate down and stretching it out. On this day, I completed Total Body Tone Up from Beach Babe 4 with Emily DiDonato’s Yoga Flow!

Monday, 5/22/17:

This year for the Bikini Series, K&K have being doing a lot of live workouts via Instagram. Very cool concept, however… Since I have a job those workouts really aren’t an option for me. Luckily, they’ve slowly been adding them to YouTube, so I’m trying to work my way through them all! I completed a “live” upper body workout, plus a years old Bikini Abs workout and Beach Babe 5’s HIIT the Beach. That one has been a weekly staple for me. I love it!

Tuesday, 5/23/17:

Tuesday was such a strange day. I took the day off, but I still had a million one things to do, so I adhered to my 4:15 a.m. wake up call. It was #ToneItUpTuesday, so I tried out the new Toned Abs routine (burned so good) and did two rounds of Totally Toned. That afternoon, I took Pippa out for an easy run to clear my head. We got in about three miles and she loved it! I did too. 🙂

Wednesday, 5/24/17:

Wednesday morning was back to the grind, so I got in the Rooftop Total Body workout. This was another “live” workout that was later added to YouTube. I had intentions to get in another run that afternoon, but I didn’t leave work until 5:30 and it just wasn’t going to happen. #life

Thursday, 5/25/17:

I typically do an afternoon workout on Thursdays, but I really needed to get to the grocery store… So I sacrificed some sleep for another 4:15 a.m. morning. (Maybe that’s why I’m so tired–because my mornings start in the middle of the night?!) I completed Bootylicious from Beach Babe 5, a kettlebell/body weight booty workout that will kick your tail. (Pun intended) I ended my workout with a 15 minute HIIT!

Friday, 5/26/17:

Fridays are for flexing, and Tone It Up has a workout for that! I did the TIU Flex Friday workout and HIIT the Beach again. I’m currently up to 52 miles for my #100bySummer goal. The first day of summer is June 20. At my current rate, it’s going to be tight, but hopefully I’ll make it!

Saturday, 5/27/17:

As I mentioned, we went home on Friday night for graduation. Small town graduations last FOREVER, so it was dang near 9 p.m. by the time we got out of there. We visited with my husband’s cousin while she opened her graduation gifts and it was almost 10:45 when we left to make the hour and a half drive back. I suck at staying up late and felt like crap all day Saturday… So I took it low intensity and stretched it out with some PiYo Sweat. There are about 16 burpees in that workout and that was more than enough to get my heart rate up for the day!

Today begins week 6 of the Tone It Up Bikini Series. I’m starting to feel the itch to try something new. I’m the queen of quitting programs and challenges or getting bored with a set schedule (a lot like I did during #LookForLove this year). With only three weeks left I’ll be so angry at myself for giving up, but I think I’ll definitely start mixing other things in. It’s always nice to be reminded how much fun other workouts can be!

Today is Monday, May 22. Say what?! How (no, really, HOW) are we heading into the last full week of May? It seems like 2017 just started last week and I was juuuust sitting down to write the first few posts of this here blog. Yet, here we are with Memorial Day a week away and summer right around the corner. Not that I’m complaining — 2017 has had it’s rough patches.

Today begins Week 5 of the Tone It Up Bikini Series and as cheesy as it sounds, this challenge has been the light at the end of the tunnel for me on rough days these past few weeks. When I feel as if I’m being bombarded with negativity, it’s fun to wake up to the positivity of Karena and Katrina and now that I can escape with a good sweat and spend some time taking care of myself. That said, here’s how I escaped last week.

Sunday, 5/14/17:

The day before, my husband and I went to see Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Because I just CANNOT go to the movies without getting popcorn and Raisinets, I of course ate way too many of both. So Sunday, I completed K&K’s BodyLove Total Body Workout (with Jillian Michaels too!) and followed it up with an old school Bikini Yoga video from a years old challenge.

Last week’s meal prep was BEAUTIFUL!

Monday, 5/15/17:

I woke up EXCITED to workout Monday morning (I usually do). I completed Tight & Toned Core (that’s a burner) and Beach Babe 3 Beach Arms. I have decided that I really need to start “training for my training”, so I got in a very hot run of 3.2 miles that afternoon. A lot of my half marathon training will be completed when it’s hot outside, so it’s time I get used to being out in it.


Tuesday, 5/16/17:

It’s Tone It Up Tuesday! Today, I did two rounds of the new Booty Burn workout, as well as the 5 daily moves. The daily moves consisted of 3 rounds/15 reps of Kettlebell swings, Kettlebell squats, Kettlebell sumo squats, curtsy lunges, bridges. My lower bod was really feeling the burn.

Wednesday, 5/17/17:

Wednesday was such a fun day! I woke up for my #tiubootycall as I usually do. I decided to try out the only workout from Beach Babe 5 I hadn’t done yet — Sunset Sweat. It was pretty short and a great start to the day, but my real workout came that evening. I tried out CycleBar for the first time and completed a class with some other TIU girls from my area! Gotta love Instagram. 🙂


I was blown away by the whole experience. If you read my post last week on home gyms, you know it’s been YEARS since I’ve taken a group fitness class (much less spin). I forgot how challenging they can be. I had jello legs walking out of there!

Thursday, 5/18/17:

Rest day! I had intended a run for the afternoon, but learned I was tasked with working my school’s dance. Between set up, the actual dance, and tear down, I wasn’t going to have time, so I just made it a rest day.

Friday 5/18/17:

Karena and Katrina released another new workout today — TIU Flex Friday — an upper body circuit workout that gave me a serious shoulder pump and tricep burn. I followed that with HIIT Me Up from Beach Babe 4 and quickly appreciated my rest day from the previous day. My quads were definitely still feeling the DOMS from Wednesday’s spin class.

Saturday, 5/19/17:

By Saturday, I was good to go and hankering to hit the streets for a run. I did just that! I got in almost 4 miles after completing Sunshine Sculpt. I spent the rest of the day hanging out with my husband and working on my #sidehustle (lol).

Last week turned out to be a lot more busy than I anticipated. Or maybe I was just a lot more lazy than I anticipated? I guess we’ll never know.🤷🏻‍♀️ Either way, I was pretty silent and for the first week all year only posted once. Whoops.

Last Week's Workouts

At the beginning of the week I got in a lot more walking than I usually do due to state testing and active monitoring. #teacherlife It went by pretty quickly though, so I didn’t mind too much! I allowed myself a nice reset over the weekend, and even took in a movie with my husband. This week, I’m looking forward to more great workouts and getting that much closer to summer break! I would be lying if I said summers off was not one of the reasons I decided to become a teacher. Obviously, it’s not the only reason, nor is it the biggest, but it sure is nice to be able to have that built-in work-life balance aspect!

Sunday, 5/7/17:

Last weekend we traveled home for our nephew’s first birthday party, so obviously there was cake involved. Due to that, I wanted a little more intensity than my typical Sunday yoga routine. I chose to do the HIIT Abs routine with the Tone It Up girls and Jillian Michaels, followed by this 15 minute yoga flow. It was the perfect balance of strength and stretch.

Monday, 5/8/17:

I kicked off the work week with some HIIT! I love doing that. Specifically, I did one of the new Bikini Series workouts, Sandy Sweat HIIT, and the 5 Daily Moves, which were all HIIT based. After getting to work, I did four hours of “active monitoring”. This means I walked around in circles and weaved between rows of desks for four hours straight.

Tuesday, 5/9/17:

On Tuesday, I had four more hours of “active monitoring”, but also got in another early morning workout. I did a total body routine called Sunshine Sculpt, another perfect balance of stretch and strength, followed by two miles on the treadmill. After school, I got in another round of Sunshine Sculpt to end my day.

Wednesday, 5/10/17:

Wednesday morning called for some upper body work using BeachBabe 5 Arms & Abs. Afterwards, I did about 15 minutes of some treadmill HIIT to add to my #100bySummer total.

BREAKFAST!

Thursday, 5/11/17:

I absolutely LOVE getting my workout in before the sun rises. But… I also love sleeping in on Thursday mornings! That afternoon, I came home to HIIT the Beach from the BeachBabe 5 series and did the 2016 TIU Bikini Series Arms & Abs workout. It was about five minutes long and I just tacked it on because I was feeling a little something “extra”. 😉

Friday, 5/12/17:

Friday morning I was back on my grind with the Total Babe Workout, again from the BeachBabe 5 series and Tone HIIT Up, a HIIT workout from a previous challenge. It’s a major #tiugirlproblem that once you drink the koolaid, you have an exorbitant amount of workouts lying around (or using up Google Drive storage😜) and not enough time to do them all.

Basically, these posts are just a lot of PWO selfies.

Saturday, 5/13/17:

My ideal Saturday workout is a nice run before it gets too hot (we’re already having highs in the 90s here!), so that’s exactly what I did. I hit the streets for 3 miles after a quick body weight booty workout, Bombshell Booty. I polished off my workout with a few ab exercises and called it good.
